Two photos were added to the Thousand Islands Gallery of the September 27th lunar eclipse.
In order to capture the scene and make the actual moon work in the scene, a little photographic and digital magic had to occur. The scene was captured during the eclipse using five varied exposures blended together in order to capture the wide dynamic range of the lighted areas and illuminate the dark areas. The moon was shot separately overhead, masked and dropped into place. To shoot the moon as seen would have left a lot of negative space between the horizon and the moon. The separate exposures were each edited prior to blending and post blend, resulting in the final image you see.
