We are moving into more moderate temperatures in the islands and it will not be long before we start to see the ice break up. On heavily overcast days when there appears to be little to photograph, it takes finer digital editing techniques to bring out the contrast, colour and detail in a scene. You will be surprised at what you can develop from a RAW file that appears flat and lifeless. Keep your eye on the 'Recently Added' Gallery to see photos in the islands that take us into the spring.

Mid-March will finally see us break through the freezing mark. There is a lot of snow and ice to melt here among the islands. As this image demonstrates, it is simply fun to dream a little of the coming spring. You will see some recently added images to the High Performance Gallery demonstrating the technique of masking and blending backgrounds into a scene for a unique look. It is fun to play with and can range from the subtle to the obvious. Whether you like it or not, it certainly catches your eye.

A long and cold winter has established itself in the Thousand Islands. It does not look like an early spring for boaters. I have added a few images shot along the river this past week during a windchill of -36 degrees Celsius. The strong currents through Ivy Lea help keep some open water in that area and present opportunities of mist rising.
